In an effort to make the holidays more meaningful for our readers, we thought we would veer from our usual blog content and provide you with some tips to make the holiday season more fun.
Here are some simple things you can do to make your holidays more enjoyable.
1. Bake something
This is one of the easiest ways to show loved ones what a special time the holidays are—especially children. Bake cookies or pass on an old family recipe.
2. Find magic in the holidays
Appreciate the splendor of the lights, trees, and decorations. Go for a drive in the car to see how people decorate their houses and put up lights, or take a trip to the city for a festive event. The joy you express over the holidays is something all generations can enjoy.
3. Make something
There are so many different kinds of crafts for both adults and children to do. There’s nothing more appreciated than a homemade gift. Knit, crochet, sew, draw, paint—be creative!
4. Help someone in need
Nothing will make you feel better during the holidays than helping someone in need. Volunteer at a soup kitchen, visit a lonely senior at home or at a nursing facility, give to Toys for Tots, bring coats to a homeless shelter. There is so much joy in giving!
5. Sing holiday songs
Much of the fun during the holidays comes from the joyous sound of people singing. Sing at home with family or go to a nursing home or hospital as a group to sing. Whatever your faith, Christmas and Hanukkah songs lift the spirit. Children, especially, love to learn and sing holiday songs.
6. Go to a holiday movie
Whether you are a child or adult, going to a holiday movie is a fun activity. Go as a couple to see a touching holiday film or comedy, or as a family to see a Disney holiday movie. It’s a guaranteed good time!
Remember to always look for joy, make something, help someone in need, sing holiday songs, or enjoy a holiday movie. You’ll come away with more of the MAGIC of the season and less of the MATERIALISM.
Happy Holidays!
